THE QUEEN

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY SEPTEMBER 12, 2022

QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND, WHO DIED LAST THURSDAY AFTER A FULL LIFE OF 96 YEARS, DOMINATED OUR CONSCIOUSNESS LIKE FEW OTHER MONARCHS.

I REMEMBER SEEING HER SHORTLY AFTER SHE BECAME QUEEN. IT WAS AT A UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND FOOTBALL GAME. SHE RODE IN AN OPEN VEHICLE AND WAVED TO A CHEERING CROWD.

PERHAPS LESS WELL KNOWN WAS HER FAITH IN CHRIST. IN ONE OF HER MORE MEMORABLE CHRISTMAS MESSAGES SHE SPOKE OPENLY ABOUT HER SAVIOR AND RECOMMENDED HIS SALVATION MESSAGE TO ALL.

IF YOU’VE SEEN THE SERIES “THE CROWN” A YOUNG QUEEN IS DEPICTED MEETING WITH BILLY GRAHAM WHEN THE U.S. EVANGELIST PREACHED AT THE LONDON BOROUGH OF HARINGEY. THE REVIVAL WENT ON FOR WEEKS. THOUSANDS WERE SAVED.

IT’S HARD TO THINK OF A WORLD WITHOUT QUEEN ELIZABETH. SHE HAS BEEN SO MUCH A PART OF THE LIVES OF PEOPLE OF A CERTAIN AGE.

SHE KNEW FIFTEEN PRIME MINISTERS. FIFTEEN! BEGINNING WITH WINSTON CHURCHILL AND ENDING JUST A FEW DAYS AGO WITH THE NEWEST, LIZ TRUSS, WHO SAID THE QUEEN WAS THE ROCK ON WHICH MODERN BRITAIN WAS BUILT. SHE HAS NOW SEEN HER REAL ROCK, FACE TO FACE. I’M CAL THOMAS.
