Comey, Trump and Russia

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JUNE 9, 2017

THERE WERE COMPETING HEADLINES IN SOME OF YESTERDAY’S NEWSPAPERS. THE WASHINGTON TIMES HEADLINE SAID, “INTELLIGENCE CHIEFS FELT NO TRUMP PRESSURE.” THE WASHNGTON POST HEADLINES SUGGESTED FORMER FBI DIRECTOR JAMES COMEY DID FEEL PRESSURE FROM THE PRESIDENT.

IN HIS OPENING STATEMENT TO THE SENATE COMMITTEE INVESTIGATING ALLEGED TIES BETWEEN THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN AND RUSSIA, COMEY SAID HE HAD ASSURED THE THEN PRESIDENT-ELECT HE WAS NOT THE TARGET OF THAT INVESTIGATION. HE SAID HE DID SO WITHOUT TRUMP ASKING HIM.

DEMOCRATS, WHO HAVE NO AGENDA EXCEPT MORE TAXES AND SPENDING, ARE HOPING ALL OF THESE INVESTIGATIONS WILL HAMPER THE ADVANCE OF TRUMP’S AGENDA, AND NOT JUST DEMOCRATS. SOME REPUBLICANS, TOO, WHO ARE AFRAID OF THEIR OWN SHADOWS.

TRUMP’S BEHAVIOR HAS NOT YET – AND MAY NEVER – RISE TO A LEVEL BEYOND INAPPROPRIATE. TO THE LEFT IT DOESN’T MATTER, THOUGH THEY WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM IMPEACHED. IT’S ALL ABOUT NOT CHANGING DYSFUNCTIONAL AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT AND SAVING THE COURTS TO ADVANCE LIBERALISM. THAT’S THE REAL HEADLINE. I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
