Denying Jesus At Easter

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY APRIL 18, 2017

IT’S BECOME AN EASTER TRADITION. NO, NOT BUNNY RABITTS AND COLORED EGGS; RATHER STORIES IN THE PRESS THAT APPEAR EVERY EASTER DENYING DETAILS OF THE  CRUCIFIXION OF CHRIST AND HIS RESURRECTION.

A COLUMN IN THE NEW YORK TIMES BY NICK KRISTOF WAS TYPICAL. KRISTOF INTERVIEWED JIMMY CARTER, WHO SAID BECAUSE HE’S A SCIENTIST HE CAN’T ACCEPT THE YOUNG EARTH THEORY. HOW DOES HE KNOW? WAS HE THERE? CARTER ALSO QUESTIONS SOME OF THE MIRACLES JESUS PERFORMED, BUT ACCEPTS THEM ON FAITH.

KRISTOF ASKS IF GANDHI IS IN HELL BECAUSE HE DIDN’T ACCEPT JESUS. CARTER SAID HE COULDN’T JUDGE. THE VERY QUESTION IMPLIES A BELIEF IN WORKS SALVATION, WHICH SCRIPTURE CLEARLY REJECTS. IF WORKS – AND GANDHI LED A FAR FROM PERFECT MORAL LIFE – WERE SUFFICIENT TO EARN A PLACE IN HEAVEN THEN CHRIST DIED FOR NOTHING.

WHAT KIND OF GOD WOULD HE BE IF MAN CAN EXPLAIN HIM? ISAIAH DESCRIBED HIM AS HIGH AND LIFTED UP, WHICH IMPLIES BEYOND THE REACH, OR UNDERSTANDING OF HUMANS.

NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER BUT BY JESUS. TO SAY OTHERWISE IS TO CALL HIM A LIAR. I’M WAITING FOR COLUMNS AND STORIES DENYING MOHAMMED. I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
