Hurting in Houston

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY SEPTEMBER 2, 2017

THE STORIES ONE HEARS AND SEES ABOUT PEOPLE AFFECTED BY THE TEXAS AND NOW LOUISIANA STORM NAMED HARVEY ARE HEART-RENDING. BABIES SWEPT AWAY BY A STRONG CURRENT. FAMILIES LOOKING FOR LOVED ONES. HOMES DESTROYED, SOME WITHOUT FLOOD INSURANCE. NO ONE COULD HAVE PREDICTED SUCH A FLOOD. AS USUAL, THE POOR HAVE BEEN AFFECTED THE MOST.

I LIVED IN HOUSTON TWICE AND KNOW SOME OF THESE NEIGHBORHOODS AND SUBMERGED FREEWAYS. THIS WAS DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE SPACE PROGRAM AND HEART TRANSPLANT ERA. IT WAS AN EXCITING AND OPTIMISTIC PLACE TO BE BACK THEN. LET’S HOPE THAT EXCITEMENT AND OPTIMISM RETURNS.

AFTER THE MEDIA ATTENTION FADES – AND IT WILL – PEOPLE WILL STILL NEED HELP REBUILDING THEIR HOMES AND THEIR LIVES. BE SURE TO CHECKOUT LEGITIMATE CHARITIES OR LOCAL CHURCHES SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO MAKE A CONTRIBUTION – AND I HOPE YOU WILL. UNFORTUNATELY, CROOKS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DISASTERS AND NOT ALL ORGANIZATIONS WILL SEND ALL OF THE MONEY TO THOSE IN NEED. DO SOME RESEARCH ON WHO IS LEGIT AND WHO IS NOT. AND PRAY FOR THESE PEOPLE…OUR FELLOW AMERICANS AND IN MANY CASES, OUR FELLOW BELIEVERS. I’M CAL THOMAS.
