New Evidence: School Vouchers Work!

         THERE IS NEW EVIDENCE SCHOOL VOUCHERS ARE BENEFITTING CHILDREN.

RESEARCHERS FOCUSED ON INDIANA’S VOUCHER PROGRAM THAT NOW SERVES MORE THAN 34,000 STUDENTS. THE STUDY FOUND THAT STUDENTS USING VOUCHERS HAD DECLINES IN MATH AND ENGLISH FOR THE FIRST TWO YEARS AFTER LEAVING THEIR PUBLIC SCHOOLS. BUT THE LONGER THEY STAYED IN THEIR NEW SCHOOLS THE BETTER THEY DID – SURPASSING THEIR PUBLIC SCHOOL PEERS IN ENGLISH AFTER FOUR YEARS.

WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU? IT TELLS ME THE INDIANA PUBLIC SCHOOLS HAVE POORLY SERVED CHILDREN AND WHEN THE KIDS WERE ALLOWED A CHOICE AND PICKED PRIVATE SCHOOLS THEY DID BETTER.

CHOICE AND COMPETITION WORK IN BUSINESS AND IN VIRTUALLY EVERY OTHER AREA OF LIFE. WHY SHOULDN’T IT BE EXPECTED TO WORK IN EDUCATION, AS WELL? IT DOES, BUT THE TEACHERS UNIONS AND THE POLITICIANS WHO RECEIVE CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THE EDUCATION MONOPOLY DON’T CARE ABOUT THE KIDS.

VOUCHERS AND SCHOOL CHOICE WOULD ESPECIALLY BENEFIT POOR AND MNORITY CHILDREN. THEIR TICKET TO A BETTER LIFE IS A GOOD EDUCATION. THIS NEW RESEARCH SHOULD BE USEFUL IN HELPING THEM AND ALL KIDS ESCAPE FAILING PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND BREAKING THE EDUCATION MONOPOLY. I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
