Rendering Unto "Caesar"

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY APRIL 14, 2017

IT’S TIME TO “RENDER UNTO CAESAR” AGAIN, BUT DOES THAT MEAN “CAESAR” – IN THIS CASE THE U.S. GOVERNMENT -- CAN TAKE WHATEVER IT WANTS FROM THOSE WHO EARN IT AND MISSPEND OUR MONEY? CERTAINLY NOT.

THE TAX CODE HAS LONG BEEN INDECIPHERABLE. IT IS AN OUTRAGE THAT MILLIONS OF US HAVE TO HIRE SOMEONE TO PREPARE OUR TAXES BECAUSE WE CAN’T UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTIONS AND THE FORMS SEEM TO BE COMPILED BY PEOPLE DETERMINED TO FRUSTRATE US.

THE COMPLICATIONS ARE THE FAULT OF POLITICIANS AND THE LOBBYISTS THEY WISH TO FAVOR. THESE LOBBYISTS AND THE COMPANIES AND INTERESTS THEY REPRESENT ARE OFTEN CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS TO THE POLITICIANS. MONEY MEANS ACCESS AND ACCESS MEANS POLICY. THE TAX LAWS ARE WRITTEN TO FAVOR THE RICH AND POWERFUL OVER THE MIDDLE CLASS WHO HAVE LESS INFLUENCE.

EVERYONE KNOWS THE PROBLEM, BUT THE PEOPLE WHO WOULD BENEFIT LEAST FROM SOLVING IT ARE NOT ABOUT TO MAKE THE TAX LAWS AND FORMS ANY SIMPLER. THAT’S WHY WE NEED TERM LIMITS, BUT AGAIN, THOSE WHO WOULD BENEFIT LEAST FROM TERM LIMITS ARE NOT ABOUT TO ENACT THEM.

SO, HAPPY TAX DAY MONDAY. BOY, DOESN’T THAT SEEM A CONTRADICTION? I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
