The Worthless UN

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JULY 18, 2017

THE UNITED NATIONS HAS ONCE AGAIN PROVED ITS WORTHLESSNESS. THE UN HAS VOTED TO BAN NUCLEAR WEAPONS. THAT’S RIGHT, NATIONS THAT DO NOT CURRENTLY POSSESS NUCLEAR WEAPONS HAVE PLEDGED NOT TO DEVELOP THEM AND TO USE NUCLEAR POWER ONLY FOR PEACEFUL PURPUSES. SINCE “PEACEFUL PURPOSES” IS NOT DEFINED, IRAN SIGNED THE DOCUMENT. IRAN, WHICH AS ANYONE NOT SUPPORTING THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION’S EQUALLY WORTHLESS DEAL KNOWS IS BUSY DEVELOPING NUCLEAR WEAPONS.

WE’RE STILL WAITING TO SEE IF NORTH KOREA SIGNS THE DOCUMENT, BUT NO ONE SHOULD HOLD THEIR BREATH.

AMONG THE UN’S MANY FAILURES OVER THE YEARS IS ITS FAILURE TO UNDERSTAND HUMAN NATURE. AS THE WALL STREET JOURNAL NOTED IN AN EDITORIAL, AN EARLIER NUCLEAR NONPROLIFERATION TREATY HAS NOT STOPPED NUCLEAR PROLIFERATION.

THE WORLD’S NINE NUCLEAR POWERS BOYCOTTED THE LATEST TREATY VOTE. IN A JOINT STATEMENT, THE U.S., BRITAIN AND FRANCE DENOUNCED THE BAN, SAYING IT “CLEARLY DISREGARDS THE REALITIES OF THE INTERNATIONAL SECURITY ENVIRONMENT.” AND I WOULD ADD, IT ALSO DISREGARDS HUMAN NATURE. I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
