A Thanksgiving Thought

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY NOVEMBER 28, 2019

I HAD A CONVERSATION THIS WEEK WITH A PASTOR FRIEND. AMONG THE THINGS HE MENTIONED WAS THE DIFFICULTY OF COMING UP WITH NEW SERMONS THAT PEOPLE HAVEN’T HEARD BEFORE ON THE SUNDAYS LEADING UP TO ADVENT.

I SAID FAMILIARITY IS EXACTLY WHAT IS NEEDED AT A TIME WHEN THE NATION IS IN TURMOIL AND EVEN THANKSGIVING WILL BE HARD FOR SOME, ESPECIALLY IF POLITICS COMES UP AT TODAY’S TABLE.

IF ABRAHAM LINCOLN COULD URGE THE NATION IN 1863, TORN APART BY A CIVIL WAR TO BE THANKFUL TO GOD FOR HIS MERCY AND MANY BLESSINGS, CAN WE DO LESS? LINCOLN CONFESSED THAT WE HAVE NATIONAL AND PERSONAL SINS BUT GOD IN HIS MERCY AND GRACE HAS CHOSEN TO GIVE US FREEDOM AND PROTECT US, THOUGH HIS KINGDOM IS NOT OF THIS WORLD.

BE THANKFUL FOR THAT. BE THANKFUL FOR YOUR FAMILY, FLAWED AS SOME MAY BE. IF YOU ARE A BELIEVER, THANK GOD FOR YOUR SALVATION, WHICH WAS NOT YOUR CHOICE, BUT HIS. WHAT GRATITUDE CAN EXCEED THAT?

WORSHIP THE GOD WHO MADE US AND OFFERS A HOME IN HEAVEN FREE OF STRIFE. IF YOU CAN’T BE THANKFUL FOR THAT, WHAT ELSE IS THERE? HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I’M CAL THOMAS.
