Advice for President Trump

CALTHOMAS COMMENTARY AUGUST 9, 2018

I HOPE YOU WILL READ MY COLUMN TODAY, EITHER IN YOUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER IF THEY CARRY IT, OR ONLINE AT VARIOUS WEBSITES INCLUDING CALTHOMAS.COM

IN IT I OFFER ADVICE TO PRESIDENT TRUMP ABOUT HOW HE CAN SEIZE THE HIGH GROUND ON POLICY AND PERCEPTION AND BUILD AN EVEN STRONGER AND WIDER BASE OF SUPPORT.

EXAMPLES: INSTEAD OF CRITICIZING BASKETBALL STAR LEBRON JAMES, WHO IS HELPING AT-RISK KIDS AT A NEW SCHOOL JAMES HELPED OPEN IN HIS HOMETOWN OF AKRON, OHIO, THE PRESIDENT SHOULD HAVE INVITED JAMES AND SOME OF THOSE KIDS TO THE WHITE HOUSE. THERE HE COULD HAVE MADE HIS CASE FOR SCHOOL CHOICE.

ANOTHER SUGGESTION: THE PRESIDENT IS RIGHT TO PROMOTE THE STRONG ECONOMY AND THE NEW JOBS CREATED BECAUSE OF HIS TAX CUTS AND DE-REGULATION OF MANY INDUSTRIES. I SUGGESTED HE INVITE PEOPLE WHO NOW HAVE JOBS, BUT DIDN’T DURING THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION, ON STAGE DURING HIS CAMPAIGN RALLIES AND HAVE THEM THANK HIM. THE LEFT WILL HAVE A HARD TIME OPPOSING SUCCESS.

EVEN IN OUR TOXIC POLITICAL CLIMATE, MANY AMERICANS STILL PREFER GRACIOUSNESS TO PETTINESS. I HOPE HE WILL TRY THIS DIFFERENT APPROACH. IT’S OFFERED BY ONE WHO LIKES HIS POLICIES, BUT WISHES FOR A CHANGE IN HIS SOMETIMES DEMEANING COMMENTS. I’M CAL THOMAS
