Don’t Trust the Taliban

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY SEPTEMBER 11, 2019

TODAY IS THE 18TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ATTACK ON THE UNITED STATES BY A GROUP OF ISLAMIC FANATICS. THE ENTIRE STORY HAS YET TO BE TOLD AS THE U.S. GOVERNMENT UNDER REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRAT ADMINISTRATIONS REFUSES TO RELEASE DOCUMENTS THAT MIGHT SHOW COMPLICITY BY SAUDI ARABIA IN THE ATTACKS. ONE UNDERSTANDS THE NEED TO PRESERVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE SAUDI GOVERNMENT AS A COUNTER-BALANCE TO OUR MUTUAL ENEMY – IRAN. BUT AT WHAT PRICE?

PRESIDENT TRUMP CANCELLED A MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT OF AFGHANISTAN AND THE TALIBAN LEADERSHIP. ACCORDING TO NEWS REPORTS, THE PRESIDENT’S PRIORITY WAS OPTICS. HE WANTED TO BE SEEN AS A SUCCESSFUL NEGOTIATOR. HIS NATIONAL SECURITY TEAM OBJECTED, SAYING THAT PROGRESS ON A DEAL SHOULD BE MADE FIRST BEFORE ANY MEETING. WHAT CANCELLED THE MEETING WAS THE TALIBAN’S TWO BOMB ATTACKS IN KABUL LAST WEEK THAT KILLED AMERICAN AND ROMANIAN SOLDIERS.

THESE PEOPLE ARE DRIVEN BY RELIGIOUS FANATICISM AND A POLITICAL IDEOLOGY THAT DESIRES TO SUBJUGATE EVERYONE TO THEIR BELIEFS. THEY ARE TAUGHT TO LIE TO “INFIDELS.” THEY CAN BEVER BE ACCOMODATED OR TRUSTED. THEY MUST BE DEFEATED. I’M CAL THOMAS.
