I Predict (but should I?)

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JANUARY 11, 2018

I DON’T LIKE MAKING PREDICTIONS BECAUSE THEY ARE JUST GUESSES, BUT IN THIS CASE I WILL MAKE AN EXCEPTION, BASED ON HISTORY.

I PREDICT AT LEAST SOME REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS WILL CAVE ON THE BORDER WALL, SIDING WITH DEMOCRATS TO RE-OPEN GOVERNMENT. OF COURSE GOVERNMENT IS NOT CLOSED, ONLY A PORTION WHICH THE MEDIA HARP ON. HOW ABOUT A DEBATE ON WHICH AGENCIES AND GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS ARE NECESSARY AND WHICH CAN BE ELIMINATED TO SAVE MONEY? THAT WON’T HAPPEN.

CERTAIN SENATORS WHO ARE UP FOR RE-ELECTION IN 2020 REPORTEDLY ARE GETTING COLD FEET ABOUT STANDING WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP ON A BORDER WALL. MURKOWSKI OF ALASKA AND COLLINS OF MAINE ARE THE TWO MOST PROMINENT ONES. IT’S ALWAYS ABOUT GETTING RE-ELECTED AND RARELY ABOUT SOLVING A PROBLEM.

GOVERNMENT IS TOO BIG, COSTS TOO MUCH AND REGULATES TOO MUCH. TRUMP IS TRYING TO CUT IT BACK, BUT AS RONALD REAGAN ONCE OBSERVED, THE ONLY PROOF OF ETERNAL LIFE IN WASHINGTON IS A GOVERNMENT PROGRAM. SO FAR, THE PRESIDENT IS HANGING TOUGH. LET’S SEE HOW MANY FOLLOW HIS EXAMPLE. I PREDICT NOT ENOUGH. WE’LL SOON SEE. I’M CAL THOMAS.
