Memorial Day 2019

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY MAY 27, 2019

DICTIONARY.COM DEFINES MEMORIAL AS “SOMETHING DESIGNED TO PRESERVE THE MEMORY OF A PERSON (OR EVENT).”

AS THE 75THANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY APPROACHES, THIS WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT TIME TO RECALL AND READ ABOUT THE SACRIFICES SO MANY MADE FOR THE FREEDOMS WE ENJOY TODAY.

THESE WERE YOUNG MEN WITH THEIR WHOLE LIVES AHEAD OF THEM. MANY WERE NOT MARRIED. SOME HAD GIRLFRIENDS, BUT THEIR LIVES ENDED ON THE BEACHES KNOWN AS NORMANDY, OMAHA, AND JUNO. THEIR GRAVES ARE MARKED AT THE AMERICAN CEMETERY THERE. IT IS A HOLY SITE AND YOU SHOULD MAKE A PILGRIMMAGE THERE IF YOU CAN.

I WONDER WHAT THEY WOULD THINK OF THE WAY WE HAVE USED THE FEREDOMS THEY PRESERVED FOR US, TURNING MUCH OF THEM INTO LICENSE FOR ANY TYPE OF BEHAVIOR AND IGNORING GOD.

WOULD THEY HAVE BEEN WILLING TO GIVE UP THEIR LIVES IF THEY KNEW THEIR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN WOULD MAKE SUCH A MESS OF THEIR COUNTRY AND CULTURE? THEY PROBABLY WOULD BECAUSE THE EVIL THEY WERE FIGHTING TO EXTINGUISH WAS SO GREAT AND THEIR OBLIGATION TO DO THEIR DUTY SO STRONGLY INGRAINED IN THEM.

REMEMBER THEM TODAY AND THEIR SACRIFICE. I’M CAL THOMAS.
