North Korea Blinks?

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY APRIL 23, 2018

IS NORTH KOREAN DICTATOR KIM JONG-UN PLAYING A GAME, OR IS HE SERIOUS?

THE PRESIDENT OF SOUTH KOREA SAYS KIM HAS GIVEN UP HIS DEMAND THAT ALL AMERICAN TROOPS BE REMOVED FROM SOUTH KOREA BEFORE ANY TALKS WITH THE U.S. CAN BEGIN. THERE ARE 28,500 AMERICAN TROOPS IN SOUTH KOREA.

PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS SAID HE WILL NOT MEET WITH KIM UNLESS PROGRESS ON RIDDING NORTH KOREA OF ITS NUCLEAR WEAPONS IS ASSURED. HE ADDED THAT HE WOULD WALK OUT OF ANY MEETING THAT DOESN’T ADVANCE THAT GOAL.

THE PRESIDENT’S NOMINEE FOR SECRETARY OF STATE, MIKE POMPEO, PULLED OFF A NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TASK BY VISITING NORTH KOREA TWO WEEKS AGO WITHOUT ANYONE LEAKING NEWS OF THE TRIP.

IT’S GOOD TO BE WARY ABOUT ALL OF THIS, GIVEN THE HISTORY OF NORTH KOREA AND THE FACT THAT COMMUNISTS LIE. WE’VE BEEN DOWN THIS ROAD BEFORE, BUT IF THE U.S. DOESN’T FALL FOR LIES AND ACTUALLY ACCOMPLISHES SOMETHING IT’S WORTH A TRY.

ONE THING IS FOR SURE. IF THE TALKS ARE SUCCESSFUL, DON’T LOOK FOR THE LEFT TO PRAISE PRESIDENT TRUMP. THEIR SILENCE WILL BE DEFEANING. I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
