Stocks, Money and Faith

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY FEBRUARY 8, 2018

ARE YOU WATCHING THE STOCK MARKET. I AM. ARE YOU WORRIED THAT YOUR INVESTMENTS MIGHT NOT BE THERE WHEN YOU NEED MONEY THE MOST? I’M NOT.

TWO THINGS ABOUT THIS. THE MARKET HAS LONG BEEN OVERVALUED. AND IT ALWAYS COMES BACK. AS MY FINANCIAL ADVISER SAYS – KEEP THE LONG HAUL PERSPECTIVE. AND IF YOU CAN, BUY NOW AT BARGAIN RATES.

SECOND, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, CONSIDER WHAT SCRIPTURE SAYS ABOUT MONEY AND THOSE WHO TRUST IN THEIR WEALTH AND POSSESSIONS. ONE OF MY FAVORITE VERSES IS FOUND IN ECCLESIASTES 5:10 – “WHOEVER LOVES MONEY NEVER HAS ENOUGH; WHOEVER LOVES WEALTH IS NEVER SATISFIED WITH HIS INCOME.”

WE HAVE THE WORDS OF JESUS WHO SAID, “WHAT SHALL IT PROFIT A MAN IF HE GAINS THE WHOLE WORLD, BUT LOSES HIS OWN SOUL.” AND YOU’LL RECALL THE ANALOGY HE USED ABOUT A RICH MAN, A CAMEL AND THE EYE OF A NEEDLE.

NOTHING WRONG WITH WEALTH AS LONG AS IT DOESN’T REPLACE GOD AS YOUR POINT OF WORSHIP. THAT’S THE HARD PART, SO KEEP SOME PERSPECTIVE, STAY GROUNDED AND PUT YOUR FAITH WHERE IT BELONGS. I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
