The Trump-Kim Summit

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JUNE 12, 2018

IF THERE ARE NO LAST MINUTE SURPRISES PRESIDENT TRUMP WILL BEGIN A HISTORIC MEETING TODAY IN SINGAPORE WITH NORTH KOREAN DICTATOR KIM JONG-UN.

PRESIDENT TRUMP GOES INTO THE MEETING FROM A POSITION OF STRENGTH, NOT ONLY BECAUSE HE REPRESENTS THE UNITED STATES, BUT BECAUSE HE STOOD UP TO KIM, CANCELLING THE MEETING WHEN SOME OF HIS TOP OFFICIALS BEGAN USING HARSH LANGUAGE ABOUT THE U.S. THE LAST TIME ANY REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTS STOOD UP TO DICTATORS WERE RONALD REAGAN AND BOTH BUSHES. DEMOCRATS ARE NOT ALWAYS CONSISTENT IN THIS AREA.

THE MEETING REPRESENTS A CHALLENGE AND A DANGER. IT’S A CHALLENGE BECAUSE OF NORTH KOREA’S HISTORY OF LIES AND DISSEMBLING. IT’S A DANGER FOR THE SAME REASON. IF A DEAL IS TO BE STRUCK OVER KIM’S NUCLEAR WEAPONS IT MUST BE MONITORED AND CONSTANTLY VERIFIED.

COMMUNISTS LIE IN CASE YOU HAVEN’T NOTICED. PRESIDENT TRUMP SHOULD BE PRAYED FOR THAT HE WILL HAVE DISCERNMENT. THIS MEETING COULD CHANGE A LOT OF THINGS, OR NOTHING. I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
