What Came From Trump-Kim Summit?

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JUNE 13, 2018

WHAT WAS ACCOMPLISHED AT THE MEETING BETWEEN NORTH KOREAN DICTATOR KIM JUNG-UN AND PRESIDENT TRUMP? SUPERFICIALLY IT LOOKED GOOD ON TV. THERE WAS HANDSHAKING AND BACK SLAPPING, LOTS OF SMILES AND A SIGNED DOCUMENT WHICH CONTAINED ALMOST NO DETAILS.

THE U.S. PROMISES TO STOP WAR GAMES WITH SOUTH KOREA. THAT WAS A BIG CONCESSION TO KIM. BOTH SIDES AGREED ON PAPER TO THE COMPLETE DE-NUCLEARIZATION OF THE KOREAN PENINSULA. KIM AND HIS FATHER AND GRANDFATHER MADE PROMISES BEFORE TO STOP THEIR NUCLEAR PROGRAM, BUT LIED ABOUT IT MANY TIMES. WILL THE NORTH ALLOW REAL INSPECTIONS THIS TIME?

NO DOCUMENT WAS SIGNED ENDING THE KOREAN WAR, SO THE ARMISTICE CONTINUES. THE USS PUEBLO, CAPTURED BY THE NORTH IN 1968, REMAINS IN NORTH KOREAN HANDS.

PRESIDENT TRUMP ENGAGED IN HYPERBOLE ABOUT THE MEETING, WHICH IS NATURAL FOR HIM, BUT WHAT SUBSTANCE WILL COME FROM IT? NO ONE REALLY KNOWS AND IF ANYONE DOES THEY AREN’T TELLING. I LIKE BEING OPTIMISTIC, BUT GIVEN NORTH KOREA’S PAST AND PRESENT I AM NOT THAT HOPEFUL. I’M CAL THOMAS.
