While You Still Have The Time

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY APRIL 4, 2019

WHEN YOU GET TO A CERTAIN AGE YOU FIND INCREASING NUMBERS OF YOUR FRIENDS PASSING AWAY. SOME OF MINE WERE GREAT INFLUENCES IN MY LIFE. IT REMINDED ME HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO SAY NICE THINGS ABOUT THOSE WHO ARE CLOSEST TO YOU AND WHO HAVE INFLUENCED YOU MOST NOW, WHILE THEY ARE ALIVE.

STATEMENTS AT FUNERALS ARE NICE, BUT THOSE ARE FOR THE LIVING, NOT THE DEAD. HAVE YOU TOLD PARENTS, CHILDREN, GRANDPARENTS, PASTORS, SOMEONE WHO HAS LEAD YOU TO JESUS, A GOOD BOSS, HOW MUCH YOU LOVE AND APPRECIATE THEM, THANK GOD FOR THEM AND PRAY FOR THEM? NOW MIGHT BE A GOOD TIME TO DO IT. AND IF THERE IS DIVISION BETWEEN YOU AND OTHERS, IT WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO DO YOUR BEST TO RECONCILE WITH THAT PERSON.

SOME YEARS AGO A GROUP CALLED MIKE AND THE MECHANICS DID A SONG THAT SPEAKS TO THIS. IT IS CALLED “THE LIVING YEARS.” IT’S ABOUT SAYING WHAT NEEDS TO BE SAID NOW, NOT AFTER SOMEONE DIES.

MY FRIEND, THE LATE MARVIN HAMLISCH WROTE A SIMILAR THEME CALLED “WHILE I STILL HAVE THE TIME.” DO IT. YOU WON’T REGRET IT. I’M CAL THOMAS.
