Must We Admit All “Strangers”?

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY MAY 30, 2018

THERE IS A DEBATE AMONG SOME EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANS ABOUT THE TREATMENT OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. THOSE WHO TAKE A “LET THEM ALL IN” APPROACH CITE VERSES ABOUT NOT FORBIDDING THE STRANGER OR FOREIGNER TO COME AMONG US. THOSE ON THE OTHER SIDE SAY ALL OF THIS IS A PLOY BY DEMOCRATS TO GET ILLEGALS SIGNED UP FOR GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS SO THEY WILL EVENTUALLY VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS.

A CASE CAN BE MADE FOR BOTH SIDES. AND WHAT ABOUT ROMANS 13 WHERE PAUL WRITES ABOUT US BEING SUBJECT TO GOVERNMENT AUTHORITIES? ARE WE SUPPOSED TO ENABLE LAWBREAKERS BY ALLOWING PEOPLE TO COME HERE ILLEGALLY, WHICH WILL ONLY ENCOURAGE MORE TO COME? IS THERE NO LIMIT? AND IF WE HAVE OPEN BORDERS, CAN WE MAINTAIN THE NATION WE HAVE? NOT LIKELY.

HOW DO WE KNOW THAT ALL THOSE COMING HERE ARE FLEEING PERSECUTION? WE CAN’T KNOW THAT FOR SURE. WE DO KNOW THAT THE STRATEGY FOR SOME PARENTS HAS BEEN TO SEND THEIR CHILDREN AHEAD AND THEN APPLY FOR ADMISSION TO REUNITE FAMILIES.

PERHAPS SOME OF THOSE CITING SCRIPTURE AS JUSTIFICATION TO TAKE IN ILLEGALS SHOULD START BY INVITING THEM TO LIVE IN THEIR HOMES. JUST A THOUGHT. I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
