Debt and more Debt

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY MARCH 13, 2020

IN ONLY HIS SECOND ADDRESS TO THE NATION FROM THE OVAL OFFICE, PRESIDENT TRUMP WEDNESDAY NIGHT DRAMATICALLY ANNOUNCED A TRAVEL BAN FROM ALL EUROPEAN COUNTRIES TO THE UNITED STATES FOR 30 DAYS. HE EXCEPTED PEOPLE FROM THE UK AND THOSE FROM EUROPE WHO HAVE BEEN PROPERLY TESTED FOR THE CORONAVIRUS.

LIKE HIS EARLIER BAN ON TRAVEL FROM CHINA AND EFFORTS TO SHUT DOWN ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION – THE PRESIDENT IS PUTTING AMERICA AND THE HEALTH OF OUR CITIZENS FIRST, AS HE SHOULD.

I AM DUBIOUS ABOUT PROPOSED PAYROLL TAX CUTS AND SPENDING THAT IS ADDING TO THE DEBT. WHEN ECONOMIC ADVISER LARRY KUDLOW WAS ASKED ABOUT IT EARLIER THIS WEEK, HE DEFAULTED TO THE FAMILIAR EXPLANATION THAT ECONOMIC GROWTH WOULD PAY FOR ALL THE NEW SPENDING.

IF THAT WERE TRUE, WHY HASN’T THE $23 TRILLION DEBT BEEN PAID FOR BY THE ECONOMIC GROWTH THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO FOLLOW?

AS I ARGUE IN MY NEW “AMERICA’S EXPIRATION DATE,” MASSIVE NATIONAL DEBT HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE DOWNFALL OF NATIONS. YES, FIGHT THE VIRUS, BUT BE AWARE THAT DEBT IS A CONTAGION OF ITS OWN. I’M CAL THOMAS.
