THE GOP HOUSE AGENDA

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JANUARY 4, 2023

THE NEW HOUSE MAJORITY LEADER, STEVE SCALISE, HAS LISTED EIGHT BILLS AND THREE RESOLUTIONS REPUBLICANS WILL TAKE UP IN THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE NEW CONGRESS.

THE FIRST AIMS TO REVOKE SOME OF THE ADDITIONAL IRS SPENDING DEMOCRATS PASSED THAT IS AIMED AT HIRING 87 THOUSAND NEW IRS AGENTS. THE ADMINISTRATION CLAIMS MUCH OF THAT MONEY WILL GO TO CUSTOMER SERVICE. ANYONE BELIEVE THAT?

REPUBLICANS ALSO PROPOSE ESTABLISHING A BIPARTISAN SELECT COMMITTEE ON THE STRATEGIC COMPETITION BETWEEN THE U.S. AND CHINA. HERE’S AN IDEA: MAKE IT A PATRIOTIC DUTY FOR CORPORATIONS TO STOP MAKING THINGS IN CHINA AND UNDERWRITING THEIR AGGRESSION AND START MAKING THINGS IN AMERICA AGAIN.

THERE ARE ALSO PROPOSALS RELATING TO ABORTION, THE BORDER AND IMMIGRATION.

EVEN IF ALL REPUBLICANS VOTE FOR ALL OF THESE BILLS, THE SENATE LIKELY WON’T AND WE STILL HAVE PRESIDENT BIDEN WHO WILL VETO ANYTHING REPUBLICANS WANT.

PERHAPS THIS WILL JUST BE A SIGN OF WHAT REPUBLICANS WILL DO IF THEY TAKE BACK THE SENATE AND WHITE HOUSE IN 2024, THOUGH THEY CAN CERTAINLY STOP ANY NEW SPENDING WHICH WOULD KEEP THE DEBT FROM GOING EVEN HIGHER AND THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING. WE’LL SOON KNOW HOW THIS IS GOING TO WORK, OR NOT. I’M CAL THOMAS.
