CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY FEBRUARY 15, 2018
IF YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THE NEWS YOU HAVE PROBABLY SEEN THE PORTRAITS OF FORMER PRESIDENT OBAMA AND HIS WIFE, MICHELLE, THAT WERE UNVEILED ON MONDAY. THEY HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON WITH PORTRAITS MADE OF PRESIDENTS AND FIRST LADIES OF THE PAST. SOME MIGHT EVEN CALL THEM STRANGE, ESPECIALLY THAT OF THE FORMER PRESIDENT. BUT THERE’S MORE TO THE STORY.
THE WASHINGTON TIMES REPORTS THE ARTIST WHO PAINTED OBAMA’S PORTRAIT HAS IN THE PAST PAINTED SCENES OF BLACK WOMEN BEHEADING WHITE WOMEN.
KEHINDE WILEY, WHO IS BASED IN NEW YORK, IS THE FIRST AFRICAN-AMERICAN TO EVER PAINT AN OFFICIAL PRESIDENTIAL PORTRAIT. AFTER HIS PREVIOUS WORKS BEGAN MAKING THE ROUNDS ON SOCIAL MEDIA HE WAS ASKED TO EXPLAIN. “IT’S SORT OF A PLAY ON THE ‘KILL WHITEY THING,’ WILEY TOLD THE NEW YORKER IN A 2012 INTERVIEW.”
YOU CAN IMAGINE THE UPROAR HAD THIS BEEN REVERSED. SUPPOSE A WHITE ARTIST PAINTED A PORTRAIT OF A WHITE FORMER PRESIDENT AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT HE HAD OTHER WORKS THAT DEPICTED SLAVERY AND LYNCHING IN A FAVORABLE LIGHT.
SUCH IS THE DOUBLE STANDARD OF THE LEFT, WITHOUT WHICH THEY WOULD HAVE NO STANDARDS AT ALL. I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
