More Failures In Florida School Shooting

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY FEBRUARY 26, 2018

MORE INFORMATION HAS COME TO LIGHT – AS IT ALWAYS DOES – AFTER THE SCHOOL SHOOTING IN FLORIDA. THE MIAMI HERALD REPORTS THE ARMED CAMPUS GUARD WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO PROVIDE SECURITY WAS OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL BUILDING AND DIDN’T GO IN FOR FOUR MINUTES WHILE THE KILLER WAS BUSY SHOOTING 17 STUDENTS AND TEACHERS TO DEATH AND WOUNDING OTHERS. AND THIS AFTER HE HAD HEARD SHOTS FIRED. HE RAN TO THE BUILDING BUT DIDN’T GO IN FOR FOUR MINUTES.

THE DEBATE IS JUST STARTING ABOUT ARMED GUARDS IN SCHOOL BUILDINGS. SOME STATES HAVE ALREADY ADOPTED THE PRACTICE. SOME SAY IT’S TOO DANGEROUS. IS IT MORE DANGEROUS THAN HAVING NO GUARD AND THE ONLY ARM BEING THAT OF A KILLER?

THE POINT OF DETERRANCE IS TO DETER. IT MEANS NOT HAVING TO USE FORCE BECAUSE THE OPPOSITION IS CONVINCED YOU HAVE THE WILL AND CAPACITY TO OPPOSE WHAT HE WANTS TO DO. THAT WAS THE POINT OF RONALD REAGAN’S “PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH” APPROACH TO THE SOVIET UNION. IT WORKED THEN AND PROPERLY TRAINED AND ARMED AND FOCUSED ARMED GUARD IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS CAN DETER AN EVEN MENTALLY ILL PERSON. I’M CAL THOMAS.
