CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY MARCH 15, 2018
STEPHEN HAWKING DIED TUESDAY AT AGE 76. HE WAS KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE WORLD AS A BRILLIANT PHYSICIST. A MOVIE MADE A FEW YEARS AGO TOLD HIS STORY. IT STARRED EDDIE REDYMANE AS HAWKING.
WAS HE A GENIUS? THE WORLD SAID SO, BUT HAWKING DESCRIBED HIMSELF AS AN ATHEIST. HE ARGUED THAT SCIENCE OFFERS “A MORE CONVINCING EXPLANATION” FOR THE ORIGINS OF THE UNIVERSE AND THAT THE MIRACLES OF RELIGION “AREN’T COMPATIBLE” WITH SCIENTIFIC FACT.”
I AM ALWAYS AMUSED WHEN SUPPOSEDLY INTELLIGENT PEOPLE SAY THINGS LIKE THIS. RECALL GOD’S QUESTION TO JOB: “WERE YOU THERE WHEN I LAID THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE WORLD?” WHAT KIND OF GOD WOULD BE EXPLAINABLE TO MAN? WOULD YOU WANT THAT KIND OF GOD? IF YOU DID, HE WOULDN’T BE GOD.
FOR HAWKING, SCIENCE WAS HIS GOD, BUT HE KNOWS THE TRUTH NOW. UNFORTUNATELY FOR HIM, IF HE DID NOT MAKE PEACE WITH GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST BEFORE HE PASSED, HE HAS NO HOPE OF HEAVEN.
WITH ALL THE PRAISE OF HAWKING COMING FROM AROUND THE WORLD, THERE IS ONE VERSE THAT STANDS AS A REBUKE TO ALL ATHEISTS WHO HAVE EVER LIVED. IT IS THIS: “THE FOOL HAS SAID IN HIS HEART ‘THERE IS NO GOD.’” I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
