CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY MAY 2, 2018
MOST PEOPLE KNOW WHAT THE WORD “VULGAR” MEANS AND MOST CIVILIZED PEOPLE TRY TO ADVOID BEING VULGAR IN PUBLIC AND EVEN IN PRIVATE.
NOT THESE DAYS. VULGARITY HAS BECOME MAINSTREAM.
AT LAST SATURDAY’S WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS DINNER, VULGARITY RULED IN THE PERSON OF SO-CALLED COMEDIAN MICHELLE WOLF. I CAN’T REPEAT WHAT SHE SAID BUT IT WAS VULGAR, CRUDE AND CRUEL. SHE MADE UGLY REFERENCES TO PRESS SECRETARY SARAH SANDERS AND KELLYANNE CONWAY. SHE CALLED BOTH LIARS. SHE ALSO USED LANGUAGE THAT EVEN MOST MEN DON’T USE.
PRESIDENT TRUMP WAS SMART NOT TO ATTEND THIS JOURNALISTIC CELEBRATION OF THEMSELVES. THIS WILL REINFORCE HIS VIEW OF THE MEDIA AS FAKE AND BIASED. IT WILL ALSO LOWER WHATEVER LEVEL OF CREDIBILITY THESE PEOPLE HAVE LEFT WITH PEOPLE WHO DON’T LIVE ON THE COASTS. THAT WOULD BE “FLYOVER COUNTRY.”
IN 1995 AFTER A CRUDE PERFORMANCE BY DON IMUS IN FRONT OF THE CLINTONS, THE HEAD OF THE RADIO-TV CORRESPONDENTS ASSOCIATION SENT A LETTER OF APOLOGY TO THE WHITE HOUSE. DON’T LOOK FOR THAT TO HAPPEN THIS TIME. I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
