CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY MAY 7, 2018
HERE ARE QUESTIONS I HOPE YOU WILL REGARD AS MORE THAN PHILOSOPHICAL: WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT FROM GOVERNMENT AND WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT FROM OURSELVES?
THESE ARE PROFOUND QUESTIONS THAT DEFINE WHAT AMERICA IS AND WHO ITS CITIZENS ARE.
THE FOUNDERS WANTED GOVERNMENT TO BE LIMITED SO “WE THE PEOPLE” WOULD BE UNLIMITED.
THE REASON WE HAVE HIGH DEBT AND GROWING VULGARITY IN CULTURE IS THAT WE HAVE EXCEEDED BOUNDARIES SET BY THE CONSTITUTION FOR OUR CIVIC ENJOYMENT AND THE ONES SET BY GOD FOR OUR ETERNAL LIFE.
WHAT FACES US TODAY IS NOT THE WRONG OR RIGHT POLITICIANS IN OFFICE, BUT RATHER A LOSS OF A SENSE OF HISTORY AND A LOSS OF INDIVIDUAL INITIATIVE. TOO MANY OF US THINK OF GOVERNMENT AS A FIRST RESOURCE, NOT A LAST RESORT. WHEN GOVERNMENT EXCEEDS ITS BOUNDARIES IT COSTS TOO MUCH AND DELIVERS TOO LITTLE.
IN ORDER TO REFORM GOVERNMENT, WE MUST FIRST REFORM OUR VIEW OF ITY THE WAY WE LOOK AT IT AND EXPECT MORE FROM OURSELVES. THE NEXT AND FUTURE ELECTIONS WON’T CHANGE ANYTHING UNLESS WE RE-DISCOVER THE CONSTITUTION AND PAY ATTENTION TO GOD’S BOUNDARIES. I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
