CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY MAY 29, 2018
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU ARE A POLITICIAN AND YOU HAVE RUN OUT OF ISSUES? YOU TURN TO GAS PRICES AND BLAME THE SITTING PRESIDENT FOR THEM.
GAS PRICES ARE HIGHER THAN THEY HAVE BEEN IN A WHILE, BUT AS DEMOCRATS AND THE LEFT USED TO SAY WHEN THEY WERE HIGH DURING A DEMOCRAT ADMINISTRATION, THE PRESIDENT CAN DO LITTLE ABOUT THEM. THEY ARE THE RESULT OF HEAVY TRAVEL, CONVERSION AT REFINERIES FROM WINTER TO SUMMER PETROLEUM MIXES AND OTHER FACTORS OUT OF THE CONTROL OF A PRESIDENT.
THAT HASN’T STOPPED DEMOCRATS FROM USING THE HIGHER PRICES TO CRITICIZE PRESIDENT TRUMP. IN FACT, YOU CAN ADD THIS TO THEIR GROWING LIST OF DISAPPROVALS. THEY FIND NOTHING TO APPROVE IN HIM. A FEW PRAISED HIS INITIAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF A MEETING WITH NORTH KOREA’S KIM JONG-UN.
NANCY PELOSI AND CHUCK SCHUMER ANNOUNCED LAST WEEK THEY WANT MORE PAY FOR TEACHERS. THE NEW YORK TIMES SAYS POCKETBOOK ISSUES WILL HELP DEMOCRATS THIS FALL. ISN’T THE TAX CUT AND MORE MONEY IN PEOPLE’S PAYCHECKS – FOR WHICH THE LEFT GIVES NO CREDIT TO REPUBLICANS AND THE PRESIDENT – A POCKETBOOK ISSUE? FOR SUCH THINGS THE WORD “HYPOCRISY” WAS INVENTED. I’M CAL THOMAS IN WASHINGTON.
