Independence or Dependence on God

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JULY 4, 2018

AMERICA IS 242 YEARS OLD TODAY. I REMEMBER THE BICENTENNIAL AND THE UNITY OF THAT DAY: THE INSPIRING TALL SHIPS, THE INCREDIBLE VERSION OF OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM SUNG BY SANDI PATTI AT THE END OF ABC NEWS’ COVERAGE. THAT DAY I TOOK OFF FOR LONDON FROM NEW YORK AND HAD A VIEW OF NEW YORK HARBOR. TO SAY IT WAS INSPIRIRING WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT.

IN OUR CONTENTIOUS SOCIETY TODAY, THE BICENTENNIAL SEEMS LIKE ANCIENT HISTORY. THEN, WE LOVED AMERICA AND MOSTLY EACH OTHER. NOW, THE LEVEL OF HATE AND INVECTIVE IS TEARING US APART.

THERE ARE CALLS FOR RIOTS AND WORSE. SHOOTINGS ESCALATE, AS IN ANNAPOLIS LAST WEEK WHERE A GUNMAN KILLED AT LEAST FIVE PEOPLE AND WOUNDED OTHERS WHO MAY NOT SURVIVE.

INCIVILITY SEEMS TO BE THE NORM TODAY. WHAT HAPPENED TO MANNERS AND DEPORTMENT? GONE WITH THE ILL-WIND.

THIS JULY 4TH, WHY DON’T EACH OF US COMMIT A PATRIOTIC ACT? LET’S PRAY FOR AMERICA AND HER REVIVAL, THE KIND OF REVIVAL THAT GOD HAS SENT IN THE PAST TO SAVE US FROM OURSELVES. NO POLITICIAN OR JUDGE CAN DO WHAT GOD CAN DO IF WE HUMBLE OURSELVES BEFORE HIM. HAPPY 4TH. I’M CAL THOMAS.
