CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JULY 16, 2018
IT WAS THE SMIRK THAT GOT TO CONGRESSMAN LOUIE GOHMERT. FBI AGENT PETER STRZOK DISPLAYED HIS DISDAIN FOR REPUBLICAN MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE COMMITTEE WHICH COMPELLED HIM TO TESTIFY ABOUT HIS ROLE IN THE INVESTIGATION OF THE SO-CALLED TRUMP DOSSIER AND THE DECISION NOT TO INDICT HILLARY CLINTON FOR MISHANDLING CLASSIFIED INFORMATION IN HER EMAILS. REPUBLICANS WANTED TO KNOW IF STROZK’S EMAILS TO AND FROM HIS FELLOW AGENT AND MISTRESS, LISA PAIGE, INFLUENCED HIS WORK. HE CLAIMED IT DID NOT.
CONGRESSMAN GOHMERT SAID IT WAS THE SMIRK THAT PROMPTED HIM TO ASK STROZK HOW HE COULD BE BELIEVED WHEN HE BROKE HIS MARRIAGE VOWS. DEMOCRATS IMMEDIATELY OBJECTED TO THE QUESTION, BUT IT’S A GOOD ONE BECAUSE IT GETS TO THE HEART OF THE CHARACTER OF AN INDIVIDUAL. IF A MAN VIOLATES HIS MARRIAGE VOWS BEFORE HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN, WHY SHOULD HE BE EXPECTED TO APPLY A HIGH STANDARD OF MORALITY AND CHARACTER TO HIS WORK? THEORETICALLY IT MAY BE POSSIBLE, BUT PERCEPTIONS COUNT ALMOST AS MUCH AS BEHAVIOR AND THE PERCEPTION IS THAT STROZK’S EXTREME BIAS AGAINST PRESIDENT TRUMP LIKELY INFLUENCED HOW HE APPROACHED HIS JOB, HIS DENIALS NOTWITHSTANDING.
