CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY DECEMBER 4, 2018

WHAT MORE CAN BE SAID ABOUT THE LATE GEORGE H.W. BUSH THAT HASN’T ALREADY BEEN SAID? READ MY COLUMN IN TODAY’S NEWSPAPERS IF YOURS CARRIES IT, OR ON MY WEBSITE AT CALTHOMAS.COM

IT’S AMUSING THAT THOSE WHO USED TO CRITICIZE HIM NOW CLAIM TO LOVE HIM AND HIS EXAMPLE OF KINDNESS, GENTLENESS AND COMPROMISE. OF COURSE WHAT THE LEFT MEANS BY COMPROMISE – AND THE NEW YORK TIMES HAD A STORY ABOUT THIS YESTERDAY – IS WHEN REPUBLICANS GIVE IN TO DEMOCRATS. BUSH DID THIS WHEN HE ALLOWED A TAX INCREASE TO GO THROUGH. DEMOCRATS HAD PROMISED SPENDING CUTS IN RETURN, BUT THEY LIED.

BUSH WAS STRONG WHEN IT COUNTED PRESIDING OVER THE END OF THE COLD WAR AND REMOVING SADDAM HUSSEIN’S TROOPS FROM KUWAIT. AS PRESIDENT HE WAS MOCKED BY THE LEFT AS A COUNTRY CLUB ELITIST WHO SUPPOSEDLY DIDN’T KNOW WHAT A BAR CODE IS.

HE LOVED HIS WIFE OF 73 YEARS AND HIS FAMILY AND TOLD JAMES BAKER HE WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO HEAVEN. THAT’S ENOUGH. REST IN PEACE MY FEIEND. I’M CAL THOMAS.
