CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY FEBRUARY 15, 2019
THE SCENARIO IS AS PREDICTABLE AS IT IS FAMILIAR. MEMBERS OF CONGRESS COME UP WITH A LAST MINUTE BILL OF MORE THAN 1,000 PAGES WHICH FEW, IF ANY, HAVE TIME TO READ BEFORE THEY VOTE ON IT. UNLESS PRESIDENT TRUMP TURNS THUMBS DOWN ON THE MEASURE WHICH GIVES SOME MONEY FOR HIS SOUTHERN BORDER WALL, THE VOTING BY THE HOUSE AND SENATE WILL BE COMPLETED BY TONIGHT, AVOIDING ANOTHER GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN.
YOU CAN BET THAT LOTS OF GOODIES HAVE BEEN SLIPPED INTO THE BILL AS THEY ALWAYS ARE AND THE DEBT, WHICH HAS NOW EXCEEDED $22 TRILLION AND COUNTING, WILL CONTINUE TO RISE BECAUSE GOVERNMENT CAN’T RESTRAIN ITSELF AND TOO MANY PEOPLE CONTINUE TO FEED AT ITS TROUGH.
THE INTEREST ON THE DEBT, ALONE, IS $364 BILLION. AND THE DEBT IS PROJECTED TO RISE AT A $1 TRILLION ANNUAL RATE AS MORE PEOPLE RETIRE AND THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH YOUNG PEOPLE TO PAY TAXES, JUST ONE MORE ARGUMENT AGAINST ABORTION.
NO COUNTRY CAN LONG SUSTAIN ITSELF WITH THIS KIND OF DEBT. PAYDAY SOMEDAY IS NOT A POLICY. IT IS FOLLY. I’M CAL THOMAS.
“No one has seen the final wording of a long and complicated bill we will be expected to vote on tomorrow evening,” Republican Maryland Rep. Andy Harris told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “That’s no way to run a legislature.”
Republican Study Chairman Mike Johnson also confirmed that “as of lunch on Wednesday, members of the RSC, and to our knowledge, even members of the conference committee, had not seen the text.”
“It has been reported that [House Majority Leader Steny] Hoyer has said if the bill is dropped today we will consider it tomorrow. This is reminiscent of the, ‘you must pass it to find out what is in it,’ Obamacare debacle,” Johnson said to TheDCNF. “This bill is expected to be well over 1,000 pages, and we will potentially have less than 24 hours to digest it. This is absurd.”
