CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY MARCH 20, 2019
PRESIDENT TRUMP MADE A RARE APPARANCE AT A CHURCH SUNDAY. IT WAS ST. JOHN’S EPISCOPAL, ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE WHITE HOUSE. I DON’T KNOW ABOUT THE SERMON, BUT IT PROBABLY WAS NOT BASED ON “A SOFT ANSWER TURNS AWAY WRATH.” BEFORE AND AFTER CHURCH THE PRESIDENT INDULGED IN TWO DOZEN TWEETS, MOST OF THEM INSULTS OF THE LIVING AND AT LEAST ONE DEAD PERSON.
IT IS POSSIBLE TO FAVOR THE POLICIES OF THE PRESIDENT WHILE BEING CRITICAL OF HIS BEHAVIOR. UNCOUTH IS ONE WORD THAT COMES TO MIND. LACKING IN DIGNITY IS ANOTHER. THE PRESIDENT HOLDS AN OFFICE ONCE HELD BY TRULY GREAT MEN. THIS PRESIDENT THINKS HE IS IN A CONSTANT BAR FIGHT WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE HIS ENEMIES.
NAME CALLING IS NOT THE SAME AS WINNING AN ARGUMENT. THERE ARE WAYS TO BE CRITICAL OF THE LEFT AND ITS AGENDA WITHOUT LOWERING HIMSELF TO INSULTS.
HE THREATENS TO SUE SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE FOR THE WAY ALEC BALDWIN PORTRAYS HIM AND HE TELLS FOX NEWS IT SHOULD BRING BACK JEANNINE PIRRO, WHOSE SHOW WAS SUSPENDED AFTER SHE INSULTED A MUSLIM CONGRESSWOMAN.
NONE OF THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH POLICY, BUT EVERYTHING TO DO WITH CHARACTER. SAD TO SAY THE PRESIDENT’S CHARACTER IS IN NEED OF REPAIR. I’M CAL THOMAS.
