The Ides of March: Beware the Politician

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY MARCH 15, 2019

MARCH 15 IS KNOWN AS THE IDES OF MARCH, A PHRASE USED BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE IN THE DRAMATIC MOMENT WHEN BRUTUS STABBED JULIUS CAESAR ON THAT DAY.

THAT WASN’T ITS INITIAL MEANING – LOOK IT UP – BUT IT SERVES FOR TODAY’S COMMENTARY. BEWARE THE POLITICIAN WHO PROMISES YOU ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING FOR YOUR VOTE, BUT CAN’T DELIVER.

POLITICIANS ARE ROBBING US OF INITIATIVE, SELF-C0NTROL, THE NOTION OF LIVING WITHIN OUR MEANS AND REPLACING ALL OF THESE WITH A SPIRIT OF ENVY, GREED AND ENTITLEMENT. TOO MANY ENVY WHAT OTHERS MAKE AND WISH TO PENALIZE THOSE WHO MAKE IT.

THEN THERE’S THE NOTION THAT WE ARE ENTITLED TO THINGS AND THAT GOVERNMENT SHOULD PROVIDE FOR US. TRUE, THERE IS A ROLE FOR GOVERNMENT, BUT THE FOUNDERS WANTED IT LIMITED, IN ORDER THAT WE MIGHT BE UNLIMITED IN OUR PURSUIT OF SUCCESS, CONSISTENT WITH OUR TALENTS AND DESIRE TO WORK HARD.

IN POLITICS TODAY, ESPECIALLY DEMOCRAT PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES, PROMISE THE MOON, BUT CAN ONLY DELIVER WOOD, HAY AND STUBBLE. BEWARE THE POLITICIAN ON THIS DAY OR ANY DAY. I’M CAL THOMAS.
