CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY MARCH 11, 2019
THIS IS WHY THE NATIONAL DEBT WILL NEVER BE REDUCED. LISTEN CAREFULLY.
THE ‘USE IT OR LOSE IT’ MENTALITY OF FEDERAL AGENCIES LED THEM TO SPEND THE BALANCE OF THEIR BUDGETS AT THE END OF THE LAST FISCAL YEAR ON LOBSTERS, PIANOS, GOLF CARTS AND OTHER NON-ESSENTIALS. THE FEAR IS THAT CONGRESS MIGHT CUT THEIR BUDGETS IF THEY DON’T SPEND IT ALL.
THE WATCHDOG GROUP “OPEN BOOKS” DISCOVERED $163,636 WAS SPENT ON PAINT BRUSHES. A BETTER DEAL MIGHT HAVE BEEN FOUND AT A HARDWARE STORE. VARIOUS FEDERAL AGENCIES SPENT $721,661 ON PIANOS. OUR MONEY — $1.6 MILLION OF IT – WENT TO GOLF CARTS AND THAT WAS JUST IN SEPTEMBER DURING THE FINAL DAYS OF THE FISCAL YEAR.
WHILE IT IS TRUE THAT ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS COST THE MOST AND CONGRESS REFUSES TO REFORM THEM, ITEMS LIKE THESE SHOULD INFURIATE TAXPAYERS AND DEMONSTRATE HOW IRRESPONSIBLE FEDERAL AGENCIES AND CONGRESS HAVE BECOME.
DEMOCRATS ARE AGAIN TALKING ABOUT RAISING TAXES, BUT HOW WOULD MORE REVENUE SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF TAX DOLLARS THAT ARE ALREADY BEING MISSPENT? I’M CAL THOMAS.
