CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY APRIL17, 2019
TODAY IS THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF MY SYNDICATED COLUMN. WHEN THE LOS ANGELES TIMES SYNDICATE INVITED ME TO BEGIN A COLUMN IT WAS AFTER A LENGTHY CONVERSATION THAT ENDED WITH ONE OF THE DECIDERS ASKING IF I WERE A CHRISTIAN. I HAD PRAYED THAT MORNING THAT GOD WOULD OPEN THIS DOOR AND IF HE DID I WOULD SEEK TO HONOR HIM.
I TOLD THE MAN HOW JESUS HAD TRANSFORMED MY LIFE AND AFTER I FINISHED HE ASKED IF I COULD DO TWO COLUMNS A WEEK BEGINNING APRIL 17. THAT WAS 1984 AND I HAVE WRITTEN TWO PER WEEK WITHOUT A GAP SINCE THEN. THE COLUMN IS NOW DISTRINUTED BY TRIBUNE IN CHICAGO. AT IT’S PEAK IT WAS IN 500 NEWSPAPERS. BECAUSE SO MANY ARE CUTTING BACK DUE TO FEWER READERS, IT STILL IS IN AROUND 300 AND REMAINS AMONG THE MOST WIDELY SYNDICATED.
I CLAIMED AS A VERSE 1 SAMUEL 2:30 – “HE WHO HONORS ME,I WILL HONOR.” IT IS ENGRAVED ON THE BACK OF MY WATCH.
GOD HAS GIVEN ME A PLATFORM. I TRUST HE FEELS HONORED AND YOU ENJOY READING IT AND WILL TELL THE EDITOR SO. LETTERS AND CALLS HELP KEEP ME IN THE PAPERS AND FOR THOSE WHO DON’T CARRY ME, LETTERS AND CALLS SOMETIMES OPEN THE DOOR. THANK YOU AND MAY THE LORD BE PRAISED. I’M CAL THOMAS.
