Debt On Top Of Debt

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY MAY 2, 2019

FORGET BILLIONS. NOW WE ARE INTO TRILLIONS. NANCY PELOSI AND CHUCK SCHUMER EMERGED FROM A WHITE HOUSE MEETING WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP TUESDAY TO ANNOUNCE AGREEMENT ON A PROGRAM TO REBUILD AMERICA’S INFRASTRUCTURE. THE COST? AN ESTIMATED $2 TRILLION, WHICH OF COURSE, WE DO NOT HAVE. WE ARE $22 TRILLION IN DEBT.

HOW WILL THIS BE PAID FOR? DEMOCRATS, AS USUAL, WANT TO RAISE TAXES. REPUBLICANS? WE DON’T KNOW BECAUSE THE REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL LEADERSHIP WASN’T INVITED, BUT MEMBERS ARE EXPRESSING CONCERN ABOUT THE COST.

WASN’T THIS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF DURING THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION? REMEMBER “SHOVEL-READY JOBS?” VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN LATER ADMITTED THOSE JOBS WEREN’T SHOVEL-READY.

TRUMP ADVISER KELLYANNE CONWAY SAID IT MIGHT BE PAID FOR IN A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP. THAT MIGHT WORK. SO MIGHT TOLL ROADS OVERSEEN BY A PRIVATE COMPANY. THAT WORKED IN INDIANA WHEN MIKE PENCE WAS GOVERNOR.

THERE MUST BE OTHER WAYS TO FIX INFRASTRUCTURE WITHOUT PILING ON MORE DEBT TO THE $22 TRILLION DEBT. I’M CAL THOMAS.
