CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY JULY 11, 2019
‘WHERE DID ALL THE FAITH GO?” IS THE HEADLINE IN AN OPINION PIECE IN YESTERDAY’S WALL STREET JOURNAL. SEVERAL PEOPLE CONTRIBUTED TO THE COLUMN, INCUDING ROBERT MILLER OF NEW YORK UNIVERSITY. HE WRITES: “THE AMERICAN CLERICAL ESTABLISHMENT HAS FOR YEARS PRIORITIZED SOCIAL JUSTICE AT THE EXPENSE OF CUSTOMARY RELIGIOUS TEACHING. IN A FALLACIOUS ATTEMPT TO FILL PEWS BY OFFERING A RELIGION CUSTOMIZED FOR THE 21STCENTURY, IT HAS ABANDONED CENTURIES OF PRACTICE AND TRADITION. IS IT ANY SURPRISE THAT, ACCORDING TO A 2018 STUDY FROM PEW RESEARCH, MEMBERS OF GEN Z – PEOPLE BORN FROM 1995 TO 2010 – ARE FAR LESS LIKELY THAN OLDER GENERATION COHORTS TO BELIEVE IN GOD AS DESCRIBED IN THE BIBLE?”
MILLER ADDS: “REPLACING IMMUTABLE TENETS OF FAITH WITH AMERICAN PROGRESSIVISM ONLY MAKES DECLINING RELIGIOUS PARTICIPATION MORE LIKELY. WHEN PROGRESSIVE JEWS AND CHRISTIANS COME TO BELIEVE THAT THEY CAN FULFILL THEIR RELIGIOUS OBLIGATIONS BY ATTENDING THE LGBT PRIDE MARCH AND VOTING DEMOCRAT, WHY BOTHER TO CONTINUE SHOWING UP TO PRAYER SERVICES, WEEK AFTER WEEK, GENERATION AFTER GENERATION?”
ADD TO THIS THE SECULAR PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND AN ANTI-RELIGIOUS MEDIA AND YOU HAVE A POISONOUS COCKTAIL. I’M CAL THOMAS.
