CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY AUGUST 8, 2019
ONE OF THE RESPONSES TO THE RECENT SHOOTINGS IN EL PASO AND DAYTON IS A CALL FOR A NEW LAW TO COMBAT “DOMESTIC TERRORISM.” IT WOULD BE DESIGNED TO GIVE MORE POWER TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND ALLOW IT TO DO THINGS IT CURRENTLY IS PREVENTING FROM DOING UNDER THE FOURTH AMENDMENT WHICH PROTECTS CITIZENS FROM “UNREASONABLE” SEARCHES AND SEIZURES.
THE QUESTION IS WHAT IS REASONABLE AND UNREASONABLE UNDER THE “PROBABLE CAUSE” STATUTE?
WHATEVER ADJUSTMENTS MIGHT BE NECESSARY TO DETER, OR CATCH, CRIMINALS AND PREVENT VIOLENT ACTS, NEW LAWS WON’T FIX THE PROBLEM. AS I ARGUE IN MY SYNDICATED COLUMN TODAY OUR PROBLEMS ARE DEEPER THAN THAT. PRESIDENT TRUMP’S SLOGAN ABOUT MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MAKING OURSELVES ACCEPTABLE IN THE EYES OF GOD.
WE ARE PAYING A PRICE FOR OUR SINFUL WAYS – FROM KILLING MILLIONS OF BABIES, TO PROMOTING WHAT GOD CALLS ABOMINATIONS. TO ME THE MOST FRIGHTENING WORDS IN SCRIPTURE IS WHEN PAUL WRITES: “THEREFORE GOD GAVE THEM OVER IN THE SINFUL DESIRES OF THEIR HEARTS TO SEXUAL IMPURITY FOR THE DEGRADING OF THEIR BODIES WITH ONE ANOTHER.” GOD IS NOT MOCKED. I’M CAL THOMAS.
