CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY AUGUST 26, 2019
LANGUAGE USED TO MEAN SOMETHING AND THE PROPER USE OF LANGUAGE MEANT YOU WERE EDUCATED AND AWARE THAT WORDS HAVE POWER TO BLESS, TO HARM, TO HEAL AND TO CONVEY YOUR INTENT.
THAT WAS IN ANOTHER AGE. TODAY, AS HUMPTY DUMPTY SAYS TO ALICE IN WONDERLAND, “WHEN I USE A WORD, IT MEANS WHAT I CHOOSE IT TO MEAN, NOTHING MORE OR LESS.”
WHICH MAKES ME THINK OF SAN FRANCISCO, A CITY THAT HAS BEEN IN WONDERLAND INSIDE A STATE IN WONDERLAND FOR YEARS. THE CITY’S BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IS CHANGING LANGUAGE OFFICIALS USE TO REFER TO CONVICTED FELONS. A CONVICTED FELON WILL NOW BE REFERRED TO AS A “JUSTICE INVOLVED PERSON.” A CRIMINAL RELEASED FROM CUSTODY HENCEFORTH WILL BE KNOWN AS “A RETURNING RESIDENT.” OR “A FORMERLY INCARCERATED PERSON.”
THE INTENT IS TO NOT LABEL THEM WITH A “SCARLET LETTTER,” AS ONE SUPERVISOR PUT IT SO THEY ARE BRANDED FOR LIFE AFTER SERVING TIME.
WE ALREADY HAVE “FETUS” INSTEAD OF “BABY,” AND “GAY” INSTEAD OF HOMOSEXUAL. THE INTENT IS TO OBLITERATE THE FEW LINES LEFT BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG, GOOD AND EVIL, GODLY AND GODLESS. OR AM I USING THE WRONG LANGUAGE? I’M CAL THOMAS.
