CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY AUGUST 20, 2019
EVERYBODY HAS TWO GRANDMOTHERS. ONE OF MINE LIVED CLOSE BY IN SUBURBAN WASHINGTON. THE OTHER LIVED IN INDIANA. ONE GRANDMA I SAW PRETTY OFTEN. THE OTHER I KEPT IN TOUCH WITH BY PHONE, LETTER AND VISITS, USUALLY AROUND THANKSGIVING WITH MY DAD’S NUMEROUS BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND MY MANY COUSINS.
I BRING THIS UP TO RAISE A QUESTION ABOUT CONGRESSWOMAN RASHIDA TLAIB, WHOSE GRANDMOTHER LIVES IN ISRAEL AND WHOM SHE CLAIMS TO LOVE. TLAIB AND HER FELLOW MUSLIM CONGRESS MEMBER, ILHAN OMAR, HAD PLANNED A VISIT TO ISRAEL WHERE IT WAS BELIEVED THEY WOULD DENOUNCE THE JEWISH STATE FOR ITS ALLEGED OCCUPATION OF PALESTINIAN TERRITORY AND RACISM.
PRIME MINISTER BEJAMIN NETANYAHU AT FIRST DENIED THEIR ENTRY BUT LATER RELENTED ON HUMANITARIAN GROUNDS SO TLAIB COULD VISIT HER GRANDMOTHER WHOM SHE HASN’T SEEN SINCE 2007. IF SHE IS CLOSE TO HER GRANDMOTHER, DON’T YOU THINK SHE WOULD HAVE SEEN HER IN 12 YEARS? COULDN’T SHE HAVE INVITED HER TO VISIT AMERICA, OR GONE TO SEE HER BEFORE?
THIS WAS A STUNT TO EMBARRASS ISRAEL. TLAIB LET GO WITH A FLURY OF VERBAL ATTACKS, EVEN AFTER ISRAEL SAID SHE COULD COME. THAT TELLS YOU ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW. I’M CAL THOMAS.
