CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY OCTOBER 11, 2019
PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS PREVENTED THE U.S. AMBASSADOR TO THE EUROPEAN UNION, GORDON SONDLAND, FROM APPEARING BEFORE ADAM SCHIFF’S INQUISITION, UH, COMMITTEE. THE PRESIDENT SAYS THAT’S BECAUSE DEMOCRATS ARE PRESIDING OVER A “KANGAROO COURT.”
AMBASSADOR SONDLAND SAID HE WAS IN WASHINGTON AND PREPARED TO TESTIFY IN A CLOSED-DOOR SESSION ABOUT THE PRESIDENT’S PHONE CALL TO UKRAINE’S PRESIDENT AND CHARGES BY DEMOCRATS THAT IT AMOUNTED TO A THREAT TO WITHHOLD MILITARY AIDE UNLESS UKRAINE INVESTIGATED JOE BIDEN AND HIS SON HUNTER. AMBASSADOR SONDLAND WAS PART OF A CHAIN OF PHONE AND TEXT EXCHANGES WITH OTHER DIPLOMATS THAT IS AT THE HEART OF THE DEMOCRATS’ IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY.
THE PRESIDENT HIGHLIGHTED A MESSAGE FROM AMBASSADOR SONDLAND IN WHICH HE REFUTES THE EXISTENCE OF ANY QUID PRO QUO. MY OWN VIEW IS THAT SONDLAND SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO TESTIFY. REPUBLICANS ON THE COMMITTEE CAN DEFEND HIM AND HE CERTAINLY CAN DEFEND HIMSELF. OTHERWISE, THIS WILL ONLY GIVE DEMOCRATS ANOTHER EXCUSE TO CHARGE THE PRESIDENT WITH OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE, WHICH CLEARLY THEY INTEND TO DO ANYWAY. I’M CAL THOMAS.
