CAL THOMAS COMMNTARY NOVEMBER 1, 2019
A MOMENT THAT ISN’T ABOUT IMPECACHMENT OR POLITICS. MY WASHINGTON NATIONALS ARE THE CHAMPSIONS OF THE BASEBALL WORLD. WEDNESDAY NIGHT THEY AGAIN CAME FROM BEHIND TO WIN 6-2 AND THE TROPHY. OH HOW MANY YEARS I HAVE SUFFERED ALONG WITH OTHERS THROUGH THE OLD SENATORS, EXPANSION TEAMS AND NO BASEBALL AT ALL FOR NEAR FOUR DECADES.
THERE ARE LESSONS TO BE LEARNED FAR BEYOND THE TALENT ON DISPLAY. THE TEAM WAS VIRTUALLY COUNTED OUT AS EARY AS MAY WITH THEIR TERRIBLE RECORD, BUT THEY STUCK TOGETHER. UNITY HAS POWER. THEY WON A ONE-GAME WILD CARD OVER THE MILWAUKEE BREWERS. THEY BEAT THE LA DODGERS, WHO HAD WON MORE THAN 100 GAMES. THEY BEAT THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS, WHO HAD BEATEN THEM IN PREVIOUS POST GAME SERIES. AND THEN THE HOUSTON ASTROS, WHO WERE CONSIDERED THE BEST IN THE AMERICAN LEAGUE, IF NOT ALL BASEBALL.
THERE ARE A NUMBER OF CHRISTIANS ON THE NATIONALS TEAM, MOST NOTABLY THIRD BASEMAN ANTHONY RENDON, WHO HAS SAID THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN THIS GAME. THERE IS, INDEED, BUT WASHINGTON’S VICTORY FOR A FEW DAYS HELPED US FOCUS ON SOMETHING BESIDES THE DEPRESSIVE DISPLAY OF POLITICS IN WASHINGTON. GO NATS AND THANK YOU. I’M CAL THOMAS.
