CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY OCTOBER 24, 2019
PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS MADE A COMPELLING CASE FOR WITHDRAWING AMERICAN FORCES FROM SYRIA. IN REMARKS DELIVERED YESTERDAY IN THE DIPLOMATIC ROOM AT THE WHITE HOUSE, THE PRESIDENT SAID THESE REGIONAL, TRIBAL AND SECTARIAN WARS HAVE BEEN GOING ON FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS; THERE IS NO END TO THEM AND AMERICA’S INTERESTS ARE NOT INVOLVED.
THE PRESIDENT SAID THE CEASEFIRE BETWEEN TURKEY AND THE KURDS IS PERMANENT AND SANCTIONS AGAINST TURKEY WILL BE REMOVED.
ALL OF THIS SOUNDS GREAT, IF IT WORKS. CONGRESSWOMAN LIZ CHENEY DOESN’T BELIEVE IT WILL. IN A STATEMENT SHE SAID, “PUTTING OUR SECURITY IN THE HANDS OF ASSAD, PUTIN AND ERDOGAN STRENGTHENS OUR ENEMIES, WEAKENS AMERICA, AND MAKES US LESS SAFE.”
WHO IS RIGHT? I TEND TO LEAN MORE TO CHENEY’S SIDE, WHILE ALSO AGREEING WITH THE PRESIDENT. THESE WARS ARE ENDLESS, BUT WE DO NOT END THEM OR MAKE OURSELVESS LESS OF A TARGET BY UNILATERAL SURRENDER. MAYBE THE PRESIDENT IS RIGHT AND I HOPE HE IS, BUT I DON’T HAVE MUCH FAITH IN ASSAD, PUTIN AND ERDOGAN. WE’LL SOON SEE. I’M CAL THOMAS.
