CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY NOVEMBER 7, 2019TUESDAY’S ELECTIONS WERE A MIXED BAG AND A WARNING.
WHILE REPUBLICANS WON THE GOVERNORSHIP IN MISSISSIPPI, THEY APPARENTLY LOST NARROWLY THE GOVERNORSHIP IN KENTUCKY. REPUBLICANS WON MANY OTHER STATEWIDE OFFICES IN KENTUCKY, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THEY LOST THE BIG ONE. THIS, DESPITE A LATE RALLY BY PRESIDENT TRUMP IN THE STATE AND A VISIT BY THE VICE PRESIDENT.
VIRGINIA IS NOW OFFICIALLY A DEMOCRAT STATE. DESPITE SCANDALS INVOLVING THE GOVERNOR AND LT. GOVERNOR, THE LEGISLATURE WILL NOW BE MAJORITY DEMOCRAT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MORE THAN TWO DECADES. THIS AFFECTS REDISTRICTING AND GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION, NOT TO MENTION TAXES AND SPENDING.
LOTS OF GEORGE SOROS MONEY CAME INTO VIRGINA. MANY PEOPLE DIDN’T VOTE, AS IS THE USUAL PATTERN IN OFF-YEAR ELECTIONS. AND DEMOCRAT WINS WERE THE RESULT. NO ELECTION IS UNIMPORTANT, ESPECIALLY IN THE AGE OF IMPEACHMENT POLITICS.
IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT WITH SO MANY THINGS GOING WELL, ESPECIALLY THE ECONOMY, THAT VOTERS WOULD ELECT DEMOCRATS WHOSE RECORD IS ANYTHING BUT GOOD. ONE YEAR UNTIL THE REALLY BIG ELECTION. I’M CAL THOMAS.
