CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY MARCH 2, 2020
TOMORROW IS SUPER TUESDAY. 1,357 OF THE 3,979 PLEDGED DELEGATES TO BE AWARDED AT THE DEMOCRAT NATIONAL CONVENTION THIS SUMMER WILL BE SELECTED.
THE DEMOCRAT NATIONAL COMMITTEE DELIBERATELY FRONT-LOADED THESE PRIMARIES AND SUPER TUESDAY IN ORDER TO SELECT THEIR CANDIDATE EARLY TO RUN AGAINST PRESIDENT TRUMP. THEIR PROBLEM IS THAT THE FIELD AND THE COUNTRY ARE SO DIVIDED IT LOOKS UNLIKELY VOTERS WILL COALESCE AROUND A SINGLE CANDIDATE AND THERE COULD BE A BROKERED CONVENTION AT WHICH TRADE-OFFS, DEALS AND PROMISES WILL BE MADE.
DEMOCRATS HAVE DONE SUCH A GOOD JOB OF BEATING UP ON EACH OTHER THAT THEY HAVE GIVEN THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN PLENTY OF TALKING POINTS FOR REPUBLICAN CAMPAIGN ADS. SEVERAL OF THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES HAVE BEEN FORCED TO ADMIT THE ECONOMY IS GOOD, THOUGH NOT FOR ALL, AS IF ANY ECONOMY COULD BE GOOD FOR ALL.
DEMOCRATS WORRY THAT IF BERNIE SANDERS GETS THE NOMINATION, THEY COULD LOSE THEIR HOUSE MAJORITY AND REPUBLICANS WOULDKEEP THE SENATE. RETIRING NANCY PELOSI AND CONTINUING TO PUT CONSERVATIVES ON FEDERAL COURTS WOULD BE A GOOD THING, DON’T YOU THINK? I’M CAL THOMAS.
