ETERNITY AND THE VIRUS

CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY APRIL 6, 2020

THIS WEEK IS REFERRED TO BY SOME AS HOLY WEEK, THE DAYS BETWEEN PALM SUNDAY, GOOD FRIDAY AND EASTER MORNING. NONE OF US WILL BE OBSERVING AND CELEBRATING, ESPECIALLY EASTER, IN OUR CHURCHES BECAUSE OF CORONAVIRUS. IT’S THE FIRST TIME THAT HAS HAPPENED IN OUR COUNTRY’S HISTORY.

WE CAN CELEBRATE AT HOME THROUGH LIVE STREAMING OF PASTORS WHO ARE BEING CREATIVE IN SOME CASES WITH VIDEO OF CHOIRS AND SERVICES FROM PAST YEARS. WE CAN ALSO USE THIS WEEK TO CONSIDER THIS IMPORTANT FACT: WE WILL ALL DIE UNLESS THE LORD RETURNS FIRST.

FOR SOME IT MAY BE CORONAVIRUS; FOR OTHERS A DIFFERENT DISEASE; FOR STILL OTHERS IT MAY BE THE CONSEQUENCES OF OLD AGE AND OTHER FAILURES IN OUR BODIES.

THE CENTRAL QUESTION IS WHAT IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN AND THAT IS NOT HOW MANY YEARS WE ARE ALLOWED TO SPEND ON EARTH, BUT WHERE WE WILL SPEND ETERNITY. THE VIRUS OFFERS THOSE OF US WHO FOLLOW JESUS OF NAZARETH OPPORTUNITIES SHARE THE REASON HE CAME, LIVED A PERFECT LIFE, DIED A SACRIFICAL DEATH ON OUR BEHALF AND ROSE FROM THE GRAVE THAT OUR SINS MIGHT BE FORGIVEN AND WE CAN LIVE WITH HIM FOREVER. THINK ON THESE THINGS THIS WEEK. I’M CAL THOMAS.
