CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY APRIL 15, 2020
THE COUNTRY IS GETTING CLOSER AND CLOSER TO RE-OPENING, BUT WHAT WILL THAT LOOK LIKE? ON MONDAY, THE GOVERNORS OF NEW ENGLAND STATES – ALL DEMOCRATS – ANNOUNCED THEY WILL BE WORKING TOGETHER TO STRATEGIZE RE-OPENING THEIR STATES FOR BUSINESS AND PLEASURE.
PRESIDENT TRUMP COUNTERED THAT HE HAS SOLE AUTHORITY TO DECIDE THE MATTER AND THAT HE WOULD RELEASE LEGAL PAPERS SOON PROVING THAT HE DOES. REPORTERS COUNTERED WITH THE TENTH AMENDMENT, WHICH SAYS ALL POWERS NOT SPECIFICALLY DELEGATED TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ARE RESERVED FOR THE STATES AND THE PEOPLE.
AS THE PRESIDENT LIKES TO SAY “WE’LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS.” WE KILLED OFF THE BEST ECONOMY IN HISTORY – DELIBERATELY. WE HAVE TO GET IT WORKING AGAIN. THE QUESTION IS HOW DO WE DO THIS SAFELY AS WELL AS PRACTICALLY.
POLITICIANS, BEING WHAT THEY ARE, WILL ATTEMPT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE NO MATTER HOW IT GOES. BUT AS A WALL STREET JOURNAL SAYS: “EVEN IN AN ELECTION YEAR, THIS SHOULDN’T BE ABOUT WHO GETS THE CREDIT FOR RE-OPENING. THE PUBLIC WANTS TO GET BACK TO WORK…MR. TRUMP AND THE GOVERNORS CAN BOTH GET CREDIT IF THEY DO IT THE RIGHT WAY.”
