CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY APRIL 16, 2020
TO OPEN OR NOT TO OPEN, THAT IS THE QUESTION, WITH A NOD TO SHAKESPEARE.
THIS IS THE ULTIMATE QUESTION NOW BEING PONDERED BY PRESIDENT TRUMP AND THE NATIONS’ GOVERNORS. OPEN TOO SOON AND THE VIRUS COULD COME ROARING BACK, EVEN THOUGH NEW CASES ARE IN DECLINE. OPEN TOO LATE AND THE ECONOMY, WHICH IS ALSO SICK AND MAY TAKE LONGER TO RECOVER, AND YOU HAVE A LONGER-TERM PROBLEM.
A COALITION OF MOSTLY DEMOCRAT GOVERNORS HAS BEEN FORMED TO DECIDE HOW TO INCREMENTALLY RE-OPEN THE GREATEST ECONOMY EVER WHICH WE DELIBERATELY SHUTDOWN. IT WOULD BE NICE IF POLITICS WERE NOT INVOLVED, BUT THE HATRED OF PRESIDENT TRUMP AND THE SUCCESS OF HIS POLICIES IS SO STRONG THAT POLITICS WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY PLAY A ROLE – EVEN IF A SMALL ROLE – IN THEIR DECISIONS.
IF OUR ECONOMY COLLAPSES PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOW BEEN FURLOUGHED MAY NEVER COME BACK TO WORK BECAUSE THEIR BUSINESSES MIGHT CLOSE FOR GOOD. WE SHOULD HUMBLY ASK GOD TO REMOVE THIS PLAGUE FROM AMONG US WHILE CONFESSING OUR SINS AND PRAYING OUR LEADERS MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS. I’M CAL THOMAS.
