CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY OCTOBER 14, 2020
A FEDERAL JUDGE HAS RULED FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY MUST PAY THE SALARY OF A FORMER CAMPUS SENATE PRESIDENT WHO WAS REMOVED FOR HIS RELIGIOUS VIEWS,
U.S. DISTRICT JUDGE ALLEN WINSOR, A TRUMP APPOINTEE BY THE WAY, SAID IT SHOULD BE OBVIOUS THAT THE CONSTITUTION PROTECTS RELIGIOUS BELIEFS AND SPEECH. THE STUDENT, JACK DENTON, HAD EXCHANGED TEXT MESSAGES WITH FELLOW CATHOLIC STUDENTS URGING THEM NOT TO SUPPORT THE ACLU AND BLACK LIVES MATTER.
JUDGE WINSOR SAID “ALL STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO PEACEFULLY SHARE THEIR PERSONAL CONNECTIONS WITHOUT FEAR OF RETALIATION. THE JUDGE COMPARED DENTON’S OUSTER TO THE GEORGIA STATE LEGISLATURE WHICH REFUSED TO SEAT NEWLY ELECTED LAWMAKER JULIAN BOND IN 1966 BECAUSE OF BOND’S CRITICISM OF THE VIETNAM WAR.
EXPECT MORE OF THESE CHALLENGES TO RELIGIOUS BELIEFS, ESPECIALLY BIBLICAL AND CONSERVATIVE BELIEFS, IF SECULAR PROGRESSIVES REGAIN THE POWER TO NAME LIKE-MINDED JUDGES TO THE COURTS.
RECALL WHAT JESUS SAID ABOUT PERSECUTION AND WHAT IS TO COME. THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING. I’M CAL THOMAS.
