CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY FEBRUARY 25, 2021
I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY TODAY ABOUT CELEBRITY AND OUR FIXATION ON FAMOUS PEOPLE. FROM THE KARDASHIANS, TO MEGHAN AND HARRY OUR CULTURE SEEMS TO WORSHIP CELEBRITIES, NO MATTER HOW THEY ATTAINED NOTORIETY. O.J. SIMPSON WAS A CELEBRITY, LESS FOR HIS FOOTBALL PROWESS THAN FOR HIS ALLEGED MURDER OF TWO PEOPLE AND THE SO-CALLED TRIAL OF THE CENTURY.
NOW WE HAVE TIGER WOODS, A GREAT GOLFER WHO WAS INJURED TUESDAY AFTER A CAR HE WAS DRIVING, CRASHED AND CAUSED SERIOUS INJURIES TO HIS LEGS. APPARENTLY HE WAS TRAVELING AT 80 MILES PER HOUR IN A 45 MILE PER HOUR ZONE. THE TV COVERAGE WAS NONSTOP. TV HELICOPTERS PROVIDED A LIVE FEED AND THEN RAN THE SAME FOOTAGE OVER AND OVER AGAIN. THERE WAS A NEWS CONFERENCE.
THERE WAS ANOTHER ACCIDENT AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME CAUSED BY SOMEONE RUBBERNECKING, AS WE USED TO SAY. WE DON’T KNOW THE IDENTITY OF THE DRIVER OR SEEM TO CARE BECAUSE THAT DRIVER IS NOT A CELEBRITY.
EVERYONE WISHES TIGER WOODS HAS A FULL RECOVERY, BUT IF HE WAS SPEEDING, AS IT APPEARS, HE SHOULD BE CITED LIKE ANY NON-CELEBRITY DRIVER. I’M CAL THOMAS.
