CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY APRIL 29, 2021
I LIKE A VARIETY OF MUSIC AND AM SURE YOU DO, TOO. WHEN IT COMES TO WHO IS PLAYING THE MUSIC, I DON’T CARE ABOUT THEIR RACE OR GENDER, ONLY THAT THEY ARE GOOD.
NOT SO IN CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA. A CHARLOTTE ARTS GROUP HAS APOLOGIZED FOR FUNDING – GET THIS – “EIGHT WHITE EUROCENTRIC ORGANIZATIONS,” INCLUDING THE CHARLOTTE SYMPHONY AND CHILDREN’S THEATRE.
THE ACTING PRESIDENT OF CHARLOTTE’S ARTS AND SCIENCE COUNCIL SAID THE GROUP’S CULTURAL EQUITY REPORT SHOWED THE INSTITUTIONS THAT RECEIVED GRANTS GOT MORE SUPPORT THAN AFRICAN, LATINX, ASIAN, ARAB AND NATIVE AMERICAN ORGANIZATIONS COMBINED.
MAYBE THAT’S BECAUSE MORE PEOPLE WANT TO LISTEN TO THE CHARLOTTE SYMPHONY AS OPPOSED TO, SAY, ARAB MUSIC. I NOTICE THE LIST DOESN’T INCLUDE GAYS AND TRANSGENDER MUSICIANS. MAYBE THEY COULDN’T FIND ANY IN CHARLOTTE.
I KEEP GOING BACK TO THAT GREAT G.K. CHESTERTON LINE: THE DANGER WHEN MEN STOP BELIEVING IN GOD IS NOT THAT THEY’LL BE BELIEVE IN NOTHING, BUT THAT THEY’LL BELIEVE IN ANYTHING. I’M CAL THOMAS.
